Week 8 Journal

What I did:

I completed my dot to line tutorial and made the word ‘hiccup’

I created a way better-looking blue lava lamp:

Comp 1292

I cleaned up and edited the base of this lava lamp from the previous lava lamp experiment. I thought of the idea of doing an animation with 3 lava lamps and then them all rotating and disappearing, so I made assets (backgrounds, glass and shadowing for the glass) for a red lava lamp and a yellow one.

lamp base red pred purple glass

I also started animating the red one.

I started brainstorming for ideas of what create with motion graphics (well themes mainly). Through talking to my lecturer Katie I came up with the idea to have my main piece of motion graphics be a fake doughnut advertisement, which will be heavily influenced by “Doughnut Time”.

Here are the ideas I came up with:

COMPASS ANIMATION

MORPHING

TRANSITION IN SEASONS

ROCKET

NIGHT TO DAY

THINGS MAKING LETTERS THEN TRANSITIONING INTO NORMAL LAYERS

ZOO?

ducks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Objects morphing into others

Vines forming words

Animals morphing into others

Patterns into animals

Either adjust the opacity of hiccup animation or make a new one saying chips or ship and change the opacity of that.

Liquid into shapes/ vice versa

Lava lamps turning, possibly into hour glasses

Hour glasses

Biscuit add?

Production line making things

Doughnut time fake ad- the icing and topping of doughnuts, production line, boxing of them

Doughnut window. Doughnuts falling from the sky. Doughnuts rotating and disappearing to reveal doughnuts underneath. Sprinkles and other toppings forming words,  like someone piping icng spelling out doughnuts.

Opening box to doughnuts rotating showing other doughnuts.- This is the main idea for the ad that I really like, as it shows off the doughnuts really well. I did research into this to see how I could do it, I at first through trim paths, but wasn’t sure if they would work on layers that weren’t shapes/ imported layers. From the looks of my research, I should be able to use trim paths. This should be fairly simple, and just a matter of layering and timing it right.

Doughnut shop window. Zooms in from production line or the doughnuts being bought from store window and then doing the rotation reveal of doughnuts.

Here are some doughnut designs:

Duck swims, ripples in water forms something

What I learnt and the resources I used:

Easy ease them using F9

\-] ends a layer so it isn’t is seen anymore, I lost 30 mins of work so I had to redo this step. I tried several times and selecting and deselecting different things and rewatched the video to make sure I didn’t’ miss anything, but this shortcut stopped working or when I used it my keyframes disappeared.

To do the c, I duplicated my layers and through the tutorial, I learnt how to reverse or flip the path so I did that for the c vector shape. I just had to reposition the c vector path.

The dots are a bit temperamental and need to be redone for each letter

Right click on the path layer, create a vector shape

Then go into the vector shape layer and under group add a trim path. Trim p[aths is what you animate.

Create keyframe of both start and end at 0.

Draw ellipse, put turbulent displace on it.

Evolution the value that multiples are what animates the blobs jiggle.

Ctrl alt and hold down the pan behind button to recentre the anchor point of an object.

Can animate the colour by going under control-eclipse- fill then colour.

Layering different effects on top of each other, roughness although in this tutorial is used at first on very rough lines could be interesting on just turbulence alone.

Wiggle paths, adding making the line jagged or bumpy depending on how you adjust the settings. Details adjust where the bumps are, size is the size of them.

Adjustment layers, using fx on those to change the appearance what is underneath, to create one go to layer tab- new- adjustment layer. Roughten edges softens hard edges

Bevel alpha effect to add a bit of dimension.

Started watching until he said plugin, how he uses and animates the mask is fascinating and I didn’t know you could animate masks. He did leave out information/instructions about shortcuts though.

Skimmed over it and realised how I could do it with the knowledge I already have. By selecting the layer that had the base of the lava lamp I wanted to copy on it I then used the rectangle marquee tool then pressed ctrl c then created a new layer and ctrl v and then ctrl v the layer copy and flipped it horizontally. Then i placed it and merged the layers and made final adjustments.

Look under Effects > Transitions > Clock Wipe.

Radial Wipe  HOPING THIS WILL WORK TO TRANSITION BETWEEN DOUGHNUTS

Te repeat stage in this tutorial around 8.5 minutes could help me with the little doughnut pattern idea. Like previously thought. I could just use trim paths hopefully.

Again his tutorial shows trim paths to do the doughnut reveal thing I want to do.

Watched these for inspiration for motion graphics.

Like how when it got to the cocktail glass bit around 25 secs in how they transitioned the colours, could be used in doughnut scene. And how the store popped up around 50 secs.

Like how the shop pops up starts 39 sec.

Production line animation, particularly interesting around 1 min 37, could do something similar with doughnuts.

Really cute style would like to style doughnut shop similarly

Handwrting tutorial, could i have the llogo have a drawn effect, or could i have dounts appear like they are drawing.
